About This Site
Introduction
The Internet, its applications and technologies (e.g. world-wide-web, hypertext transfer protocol and simple mail transfer protocol) have come to change the way we live, socialize and communicate. These changes will be permanent given the relative ease with which erstwhile cumbersome tasks are easily accomplished using the new tools it avails. It then becomes very necessary that people and institutions avail themselves of the many benefits of these tools and use them to create positive value for themselves.
Why a school’s website ?
Many have asked me this question.
Schools all over the world like businesses and other institutions have use the internet as a means of communication between members of their communities (students, teachers and other stakeholders) and information dissemination to those within and outside their communities and their immediate reach. Unlike traditional means of communication the internet is easily accessible, manageable and cheap to own on the long run.
The school’s website project is conceived to:
Provide a means of telling the world about the strides of students and teachers at the Government Secondary School Minna, in the hope of attracting local and foreign interests in the school’s activities leading possibly to international scholarships for her students and staff;
Provide a secure means of communication for staff and students of the school irrespective of their location;
Provide a means for parents/guardians to monitor their children/ward’s performance in school.
Features
Home page/Welcome screen—welcomes the visitor to the website site and introduces available resources. The home page also features news on current activities in the school or that the students and staff of the school are involved in at any given time.

eMail: Customised email accounts for all principal staff of the school and the school’s senior prefect.

Sustainability
For the purpose of updates to content and general site maintenance, I will train five (5) persons –staff and students - to be jointly selected by the school and I. These people will be involved in the eventual deployment of the site and will be expected to transfer their knowledge via relay training to other members of staff so that at any time there are enough hands that can ensure the system is technically up.
The project has been planned for the first five years, however for the purpose of sustainability the project will be handed over to the school’s staff and her old students association and informed of the duration for which plans have been made and the necessary actions that need be taken thereafter, upon completion of my national youth service.
